Nedbank Corporate Investment Bank
Nedbank Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) is one of South Africa’s leading financial institutions, known for delivering large-scale corporate banking, investment banking, and trading services. The division is home to highly specialised teams working on complex, high-value financial products and technology solutions. During my time there, the environment was fast-paced, dynamic, and delivery-driven — with constant demand from trading, operations, and business stakeholders for rapid technical and process enhancements.
Business Project Manager -Technical
I began my career at Nedbank in 2001 as a Project Administrator, and within six months I was promoted to Project Manager — a role that typically required two years of experience within the bank.
This early progress set the tone for the next 12 years, where I worked across Investment Banking (previously known as Treasury) delivering a wide range of enhancement, regulatory, operational, and transformation initiatives.
During this time, I managed projects supporting the trading floor, major technical upgrades, regulatory testing with the South African Reserve Bank, and several business-critical implementations such as:
-
Wintel Stabilisation projects
-
Talent Leadership System rollout with HR
-
SQL Trading Cluster upgrades
-
CLS implementation for global settlement
-
Disaster Recovery initiatives following 9/11
-
Microsoft Dynamics CRM implementations
-
Asset Register clean-ups after mergers
-
SAMOS liquidity testing in partnership with the Reserve Bank
I became known for taking on difficult or stalled projects, building strong vendor and stakeholder relationships, and restoring delivery confidence. Project satisfaction scores regularly exceeded 95%, and I was frequently requested by name by teams across Investment Banking.
Beyond delivery, I was also a trusted advisor to colleagues and team members. With a background in psychology, I often supported peers with career guidance, team dynamics, and problem-solving, something that contributed to a strong, collaborative team culture.
My 12-year period at Nedbank CIB was one of the most formative and memorable stages of my career. It provided exposure to high-pressure environments, complex financial systems, and some of the most intelligent professionals in the organisation. Leaving this “comfort zone” was a deliberate step to continue growing and broadening my expertise, a decision I’ve never regretted.
