CLS Implementation – Nedbank London (4th-Party Settlement Agreement)
Project type
Infrastructure
Date
June 2010
Location
Sandton, Johannesburg
Nedbank London required the implementation of CLS (Continuous Linked Settlement) to meet international settlement obligations under a newly signed 4th-party agreement. CLS is a globally regulated settlement mechanism used by major financial institutions to eliminate settlement risk on foreign exchange trades — making this a critical project for compliance, operational stability and international alignment.
I managed the full delivery of the CLS implementation for the London office, coordinating with technology teams in South Africa, London-based operations, CLS service providers and legacy-system owners. The environment was complex, involving older settlement platforms, time-zone differences and tightly controlled design requirements to ensure readiness for cross-border settlement cycles.
My responsibilities included overseeing solution design, infrastructure preparation, configuration of settlement workflows, test planning, cross-site coordination, and end-to-end validation of all integration points. The solution was installed and thoroughly tested across multiple scenarios to ensure compliance, accuracy and resilience prior to go-live.
The successful implementation enabled the London office to participate in CLS settlement cycles with full risk mitigation, improving operational efficiency and aligning the bank with global settlement standards.
